Job Description

Weber Shandwick is currently looking for an experienced media/communications specialist responsible for running digital/social media campaigns for major Chinese institutions and companies that are looking to expand their global digital footprint. The vast majority of work would be focused on the two platforms Facebook and Twitter, yet experience on other platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube are highly valued and likely to be needed for future work with our clients. The position involves the proposal and execution of:

  1. Putting together a detailed strategy for content, including editorial calendars
  2. Reporting to clients on regular basis on social media analytics, and suggestions on how to improve performance and content
  3. Proposing and brainstorming concrete and realistic social media campaigns designed to improve brand image abroad
  4. Conducting thorough audits of companies’ current social media performance, and offering constructive criticism on what areas are in need of improvement

In addition to social media experience, the position also requires ample understanding of Beijing-based international media and the ability to outline media opportunities for clients as they execute major events and campaigns. Examples of these responsibilities include:
1.Analyzing and evaluating proposals from international media
2.Preparing talking points and Q&A documents for both press and client in preparation of upcoming interviews/conferences
3.Reaching out to international media and correspondents and arranging interviews, handling logistics and other arrangements
4.Keeping up-to-date on international media bureaus and journalists, alerting clients of any important changes and updates; and maintaining steady, positive relationships with key media contacts
Finally, this position requires the candidate to be responsible for writing and distributing a Daily China News Brief to clients, internal, and other key partners. This is a brief summary of the top China-related business stories, from major international policy updates to key industry announcements. Depending on the number of relevant stories, each brief contains 5-10 stories with direct links to articles. Brief to be distributed both via e-mail and over official WeChat account.

Skills Required and Other Recommended Qualifications:
-BA or BS degree

  • 1-5 years of experience preferred
  • Native/professional fluency in English required, bilingual in Mandarin/English ideal
  • Interest in China’s relationship with international media, as well as overall business landscape
  • Ample experience with and understanding of international social media
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Eligible for a working visa in China
  • Sense of responsibility; self-motivated; ability to work with a team yet also independent enough to solve complex marketing problems on their own
